College Football Week 5 Betting Preview
The No. 5 USC Trojans get Week 5 in college football started Friday night with a ranked matchup against the No. 16 Washington State Cougars.
The Trojans are 4-point road favorites at Bovada Sportsbook as they go for their 14th straight win straight up. USC is 8-5 against the spread during its streak and in the last 10 versus Washington State the Trojans are 9-1 SU and 7-3 ATS. The Cougars are only 2-5 ATS in their last seven and as a home underdog they’re 1-8 SU and 3-6 ATS in their last nine.
Also on Friday night, the No. 14 Miami Hurricanes face the Duke Blue Devils as a 5.5-point road favorite. Miami has won seven straight at 6-1 ATS and has won its last four SU and ATS as a road favorite. The Blue Devils have been a money-maker for bettors lately at 9-2 ATS in their last 11, and as a home underdog they’re 6-1 ATS in their last seven.
The biggest favorite in the Top 25 this week is the No. 11 Ohio State Buckeyes, a 29-point road favorite versus the Rutgers Scarlet Knights. Ohio State is a lousy 1-6 ATS in its last seven, but as a road favorite the Buckeyes are 20-1 SU and 12-9 ATS in their last 21. Rutgers has one win in its last 13 games while going 6-7 ATS and as a home underdog has lost 11 straight at 5-6 ATS.
The No. 1 Alabama Crimson Tide are 28-point favorites this week versus the Mississippi Rebels. Ole Miss has lost five straight ATS and is 1-9 ATS in the last 10. Alabama has had trouble with the Rebels lately with a 1-2 record SU and 0-3 ATS mark in their last three, all as a favorite.
The No. 2 Clemson Tigers visit the No. 12 Virginia Tech Hokies as an 8-point road favorite. The Tigers are 9-0 SU and 6-3 ATS in their last nine, but they’re only 5-6 ATS in their last 11 as a road favorite. The Hokies are 0-4 SU and 1-3 ATS in their last four against Clemson, but as a home underdog they’re a profitable 8-2 ATS in their last 10.
One other ranked matchup on tap this week pits the No. 24 Mississippi State Bulldogs against the No. 13 Auburn Tigers as a 13-point underdog. Auburn is only 2-6 SU at home in its last eight against teams with winning records and 3-5-1 ATS in the last nine overall. The Bulldogs are 4-1 ATS in their last five versus Auburn and they’ve won seven straight SU at home.
The No. 7 Georgia Bulldogs are another road favorite this week, as 7-point favorites at the Tennessee Volunteers. As a road favorite, Georgia has won five straight at 4-1 ATS, but the Bulldogs are 3-7-1 ATS in their last 11 versus Tennessee. The Volunteers are a horrible 2-12 SU and 4-9-1 ATS in their last 14 as a home underdog.
