MLB Betting: BoSox Get First Look At Ohtani
The top two teams in the American League meet up in California on Tuesday night as the Boston Red Sox begin a three-game series with the Los Angeles Angels.
The pitching matchup looks like a good one as the Red Sox go with David Price (1-1, 2.40) while the Angels counter with phenom Shohei Ohtani (2-0, 2.08).
Price makes his return to the mound for the first time since exiting his last start early due to numbness in his pitching hand. That start was against the New York Yankees and in only one inning he allowed four runs on three hits. Price has had problems with the Angels in his career, with a 5-7 record and a 3.53 ERA in 15 starts.
Ohtani has been wowing baseball fans on the mound and at the plate so far, but on Tuesday he’ll be relegated to pitching. In his last start against the Oakland Athletics, he dominated, pitching seven shutout innings and allowing one hit with 12 strikeouts.
Heading into Tuesday’s matchup, the Angels have won seven straight and 10 of their last 11, while Boston has won four in a row and 13 of its last 14. Last season in six games between the Red Sox and Angels, Los Angeles was 4-2.
Also on tap Tuesday is an NL East matchup between the Washington Nationals and New York Mets. New York’s red-hot start to the season has pushed them over the Nationals in the NL pennant futures at Bovada Sportsbook. The Mets are now listed at +400, right behind the favored Chicago Cubs at +350, while Washington sits at +450.
On Tuesday the scheduled pitching matchup is Gio Gonzalez (1-1, 2.20) for Washington and Zack Wheeler (1-0. 1.29) for the Mets.
Gonzalez was tagged with the loss in his last start, surrendering three runs on five hits in five innings against the Colorado Rockies. He faced the Mets back on April 7 and came away with a no decision after giving up one run on six hits in 5.1 innings. Washington went on to lose 3-2 as a -160 home favorite at Bovada Sportsbook.
Wheeler’s only start this season came against the Miami Marlins and it was a solid one. He limited the Marlins to one run on two hits over seven innings. In 10 career appearances against Washington, Wheeler is a rough 2-7 with a 4.84 ERA.
Earlier this month the Mets swept a three-game series against the Nationals in Washington. Playing in New York may mean a different outcome, as the Nationals are 8-2 in their last 10 at Citi Field.
