MLB Betting: Mariners Flexing Muscles
The Seattle Mariners head to New York on Tuesday to face the Yankees with their sights set on first place in the AL West.
The Mariners are neck and neck with the Houston Astros in the AL West after winning six of their last eight games. On Tuesday they send Marco Gonzales (7-3, 3.42) up against the Yankees. Gonzales is coming off a no-decision against the Los Angeles Angels in which he allowed three runs on seven hits with seven strikeouts. Seattle won 8-6 as a +110 underdog in MLB betting at Bovada Sportsbook. Tuesday’s game will mark the first career start for Gonzales against the Yankees.
The Yankees missed their scheduled day off Monday because they had to play a makeup game against the Washington Nationals. Despite its thunderous lineup, New York has been a smart bet on the UNDER for totals bettors lately with 12 straight UNDERs.
On Tuesday, Domingo German (1-4, 5.23) will get the start for New York. He led New York to a 4-3 win over the Tampa Bay Rays in his last start, allowing three runs on five hits with 10 strikeouts in six innings. German has never faced Seattle in his career.
This is the first matchup this season between Seattle and New York. Last year New York won the season series with five wins in seven games. In the last nine matchups between the Mariners and Yankees in New York, the UNDER is 7-1-1.
Dodgers, Cubs in rematch of NLCS
In the NL on Tuesday, the Los Angeles Dodgers and Chicago Cubs meet up for the first time since last year’s NLCS.
The scheduled pitching matchup Tuesday is Rich Hill (1-2, 6.20) for the Dodgers and Mike Montgomery (2-2, 3.31) for the Cubs.
Hill is coming off the DL on Tuesday and will be making his first start since May 19. He had been sidelined due to a blister problem on his pitching hand. He’s only faced the Cubs once in his career, recording two outs in an appearance out of the bullpen.
Montgomery was a hard-luck loser in his last start. He allowed only one run on two hits in six innings against the Milwaukee Brewers in a 1-0 loss as a +100 underdog. In three career appearances against the Dodgers, Montgomery has no record and a 4.15 ERA.
In last year’s NLCS, the Dodgers took the series in five games. Including the playoffs, the Dodgers were 8-3 against the Cubs last season.
