NFL Week 1 Betting Preview and Trends
Football’s back Thursday night, as the Philadelphia Eagles open up the season at home to the Atlanta Falcons.
The Eagles face the Falcons as a 3-point home favorite at Bovada Sportsbook. Philadelphia was nearly unbeatable at home last season at 9-1 straight up with a 7-3 record against the spread. That included a 15-10 win over Atlanta in the postseason as a 2.5-point underdog. Atlanta is 1-8 SU and 1-7-1 in its last nine games in Philadelphia.
The New England Patriots begin the season at home to the Houston Texans as a 6.5-point favorite at Bovada Sportsbook. The Patriots have won seven straight vs Houston at 5-2 ATS, and in 10 matchups all-time they’re 9-1 SU and 7-3 ATS. Houston ended last season on a six-game losing streak with a 1-5 ATS record.
The New Orleans Saints are early favorites in the NFC South, and they’re a 9.5-point home favorite in their season opener against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. New Orleans has won eight straight at home but is only 4-4 ATS. Tampa Bay is awful on the road lately with 1-9 SU and 3-6-1 ATS records in its last 10 games. At home to the Bucs, the Saints are 6-1 SU and 5-2 ATS in their last seven.
Packers favored by 7.5 over Bears
On Sunday night, NFC North rivals collide when the Green Bay Packers host the Chicago Bears as a 7.5-point favorite. Chicago has been a disaster on the road at 2-14 SU and 6-10 ATS in its last 16. Green Bay has won seven straight as a home favorite while going 6-1 ATS. Against Chicago at home, the Pack are 8-2 SU and 7-3 ATS in their last 10.
This week’s Monday night doubleheader starts off with the New York Jets at the Detroit Lions. The Lions are a 7-point favorite, but last season at home they were only 4-4 SU and ATS. As a home favorite, Detroit usually lives up to the hype at 7-1 SU and 6-2 ATS in its last eight. The Jets have lost their last five road games while going 1-3-1 ATS.
The late Monday night game is the Los Angeles Rams at Oakland Raiders as a 4.5-point road favorite. The Rams have won their last five as a road favorite with a 3-2 ATS record. However, on Monday night the Rams have lost seven straight at 1-6 ATS. The Raiders are on a four-game losing streak at 1-2-1 ATS, and as a home underdog they’re 3-6 SU and 3-5-1 ATS in their last nine.
