College Football Week 3 Betting Preview
College football Saturday begins with a Big Ten matchup between the Ohio State Buckeyes and Indiana Hoosiers, with Ohio State a strong road favorite.
At Bovada Sportsbook, the Buckeyes are down as a 17-point road favorite. Last week they trounced the Cincinnati Bearcats 42-0 as 14.5-point chalk. That was their eighth straight win, during which they are 4-4 against the spread. As a road favorite, they haven’t been a great bet recently, at 1-5 ATS in their last six.
Indiana improved to 2-0 last week after crushing the Eastern Illinois Panthers 52-0 as a 36.5-point favorite. Despite the win, the Hoosiers are still only 3-6 SU and 5-4 ATS in their last nine. As a home underdog, they’ve lost nine in a row at 1-7-1 ATS.
Last season Ohio State got past Indiana 49-26 but failed to cover as a 27.5-point favorite. The Buckeyes have won their last 19 games against Indiana while going 10-9 ATS.
Top-ranked Tigers 2-4 ATS in last 6 vs Orange
In the ACC on Saturday, the No. 1-ranked Clemson Tigers are a 28-point road favorite vs the Syracuse Orange.
Clemson defeated the Texas A&M Aggies 24-10 last week, but it was a disappointing result for bettors, as the Tigers were 16-point favorites. Clemson has won 17 straight at 10-7 ATS, and on the road has been favored in 23 straight, going 21-2 SU and 11-12 ATS.
Syracuse was a 1.5-point underdog vs the Maryland Terrapins last week and got destroyed 63-20. At home, the Orange have won six straight at 4-2 ATS, and as a home underdog they’re 3-2 SU and ATS in their last five.
Last season Clemson edged Syracuse 27-23 as a 24.5-point favorite. In their last six vs Syracuse, the Tigers are 5-1 SU but only 2-4 ATS.
Hawkeyes 11-1-1 ATS in last 13 as road favorite
An interesting interstate battle on the slate this weekend pits the Iowa Hawkeyes against the Iowa State Cyclones as a 3-point road favorite.
The Hawkeyes blanked the Rutgers Scarlet Knights 30-0 as an 18-point favorite last week. Iowa has won five straight at 3-2 ATS, and as a road favorite has won 13 straight at 11-1-1 ATS.
The Cyclones slipped past the Northern Iowa Panthers 29-26 as a 20.5-point favorite last week. Iowa State has won seven straight at home but is only 2-5 ATS and has dropped its last four ATS.
Last season the Hawkeyes defeated the Cyclones 13-3 as a 3.5-point home favorite. Iowa has won the last four in this matchup while going 3-0-1 ATS.
