Las Vegas - Fresh off the assembly line here in Vegas we have odds to win the NFL Coach of the Year. Sure it's still early, and everything is in a state of flux, but there is money to be made.
Topping the list is the coach everyone loves to hate, Bill Belichick at odds of 10/1. Totally get that Double B goes up on the Mount Rushmore of NFL coaches along with Vince Lombardi, Don Shula, Chuck Noll and Bill Walsh. It PAINS me to say this, but quite possibly, Belichick's statue of chiseled granite is the biggest of all. Double B still has a shot at Shula's all-time win record of 328 if he coaches like six more seasons and averages like 9/10 wins per. Billy Boy is sitting at 273, needs 55 to tie, 56 to break, and he's just 68 years old. He has averaged 11.8 wins per year since coming to New England, but, OBVIOUSLY, he's missing one key ingredient, TB12. If he can stay on top of the AFC East, and get the Patriots to the playoffs, I will bow from the waist. AIN'T gonna happen. If it does, I will WALK from VEGAS to FOXBOROUGH, taking the I-15 South to Los Angeles, pick up the I-5 North to Seattle, jump on the 1-90 East, the longest highway in the country, 3,020.54 miles if you're counting, all the way to Boston. Already have the route planned out. Will be stopping in Coeur d'Alene, Idaho for some white water rafting. Billings, Montana to check out Custer's Last Stand at the Battle of the Little Bighorn. Sioux Falls, South Dakota to look at the Arc of Dreams, but must go at night. Madison, Wisconsin to smell the Olbrich Botanical Gardens, for FREE! Chicago, Illinois to get a table at Rick Bayless' Xoco restaurant with the BEST Churros EVER! Seriously, but you MUST order with a chocolate SHOT for dipping and a side of soft-serve vanilla ice cream. I promise that you will NEVER, EVER eat a churro anywhere else! Either Gary, Indiana or Toledo, Ohio. Hmmmm, lets do Toledo and the Glass Pavilion inside the Museum of Art. Staying in Ohio, gotta swing into Cleveland and hit a few notes at the Rock and Roll Hame of Fame. On to Buffalo, New York and a quick side trip to Niagara Falls. Finish up in Boston to climb Bunker Hill, like I did with my kids about 30 years ago. Actually, we all ran up the 294 steps, and obviously, with a few well placed elbows, I hit the top first!
To pay for my road trip, which I'm gonna take when Belichick DOES NOT win, thinking about dropping some cash on the Seans, Payton (25/1) and McDermott (20/1). The Saints were 13-3 last season, with a devastating OT loss to the Vikings in the playoffs, and in what could be the last hurrah for Drew Brees, New Orleans is due for a deep post-season run. Also think that the Bills will dethrone the Patriots, and McDermott will have the Buffs ready for a YUGE season after getting squeezed out of the playoffs at Houston.
