Las Vegas - Cincinnati is still in the hunt for the second Wild Card in the National League, just three games behind St. Louis. And the Reds will send their best arm to the hill, Tyler Mahle. With a 12-5 mark and a 3.59 ERA, Mahle ain't gonna get any Cy Young votes, but he is ultra dependable. And against the Pirates, he's ULTRA perfect. Looked back over his three starts against Pittsburgh this season, and here's the skinny. On May 10 at Pitt, he posted a win while allowing just one earned run over 5 innings with 7 Ks. On August 8 at home, he posted another win, giving up two earned runs over 7 innings with 10 Ks. And just last Thursday at Pittsburgh, he picked up another W, throwing 6 innings, ALL bagels, with 4 Ks. So, you can sense that he has the Bucs number. Gimme Cincy for the money.
And since Cleveland lost both games of yesterday's doubleheader, we come back with a play on the Indians tonight, but only if Cal Quantrill pitches. Almost had him down as Paul, but that's his Dad, who was in the bigs from 1992-2005. And you probably wanna know that the old man pitched for the Red Sox, Phillies, Blue Jays, Dodgers, Yankees, Padres and Marlins. Maybe you didn't wanna know that but I get paid by the word. Ha!
