BMW Championship Betting Odds Preview
The FedExCup field has been cut down to 70 this week for the BMW Championship at Wilmington Country Club in Wilmington, Delaware.
The leader atop the FedExCup standings heading into the BMW Championship is Will Zalatoris. He vaulted into first place after winning last week’s FedEx St. Jude Championship by defeating Sepp Straka in a playoff for his first PGA Tour victory.
Despite leading the Cup standings, Zalatoris is not the favorite this weekend in the BMW. At Bovada Sportsbook, Zalatoris is listed at +1400, which puts him behind Rory McIlroy, who comes in as a +1100 favorite.
McIlroy tops oddsboard to win BMW Championship
To live up to those odds, McIlroy will have to be much better this week than he was in the St. Jude where he missed the cut for only the second time this year. McIlroy won the BMW back in 2012 when it was held at Crooked Stick Golf Club.
Following McIlroy at Bovada is Jon Rahm at +1200. Justin Thomas and Scottie Scheffler join Zalatoris at +1400, while Patrick Cantlay, Matthew Fitzpatrick and Tony Finau are all listed at +1600.
Rahm tied for fifth place last week at the St. Jude to post his first top-five finish since May. He won the BMW Championship in 2020 when it was held at Olympia Fields.
Masters champion has cooled off in recent weeks
Scheffler has seen his odds improve since he opened at +1800. The Masters champion stumbled in the St. Jude last week and missed the cut. He has now missed the cut in two of his last three events and has cracked the top 10 in only one of his last six tournaments. That’s a far cry from earlier in the year when he posted four wins.
A few standouts for bettors from the +1600 logjam are Cantlay and Finau. Cantlay is the defending BMW champion and the defending FedExCup champ. He won the BMW at Caves Valley last year by defeating Bryson DeChambeau in a playoff. Cantlay struggled in the St. Jude last week and finished tied for 57th, which snapped a streak of three straight top-eight finishes.
Finau entered the St. Jude Classic coming off back-to-back wins at the 3M Open and the Rocket Mortgage Classic. He remained in contention at the St. Jude and tied for fifth pace.
Along with McIlroy, Cantlay and Rahm, other former winners of the BMW in this week’s field include 2019 winner Thomas at +1400, 2018 winner Keegan Bradley at +10000, 2017 winner Marc Leishman at +15000 and 2014 winner Billy Horschel at +6600.
