Las Vegas - Gonna look at the Valero Alamo Bowl tonight between Washington and Texas. You have heard of Caleb Williams, C.J. Stroud, Stetson Bennett and J.J. McCarthy. Not sure if you're familiar with Michael Penix Jr. Lemme shed some light. He was only 8th in the Heisman voting, but Penix has numbers that are equal to or better than ALL of 'em. His total passing yards, 4,354, are the most in the country after a 12 game season. He has also hit at a 66% clip, with 29 TDs and just 7 INTs. Only Austin Reed from Western Kentucky had more yards, 4,744, but he played 14 games. The Huskies come roaring into the Alamo on a 6-0 run while Texas has won just three of the last five. But the big problem for the Longhorns, lets say HUMUNGOUS, is the loss of RB Bijan Robinson. Bijan won the Doak Walker Award as the best running back in college football, gobbling up 1,580 yards and TWENTY TDs. Oh yea, the next best RB, Roschon Johnson (554 yards), has also opted out. Not even gonna mention their best defensive player, DeMarvion Overshown, who has also opted out. Okay, maybe a small mention. Overshown was first-team All-Big 12, with 248 tackles, 30.5 tackles for loss, 17 passes broken up, 9 sacks, 3 INTs, and 3 forced fumbles. Not TOO bad. Washington's offense leads the nation in passing as well as 3rd down conversions. So, you gotta gimme the Huskies for the money.
If you're wondering why the 49ers JUMPED from -6 to -10 points over the Raiders, Las Vegas has decided to bench starting QB Derek Carr and insert Jarrett Stidham. Just in case you have not heard, Stidham has thrown only 61 career passes and has NEVER started a game.
