Super Bowl 57 Props Betting Preview
Super Bowl Sunday is coming up, which means one thing to bettors – props bets. During the Super Bowl, you can place a bet on almost anything from the pregame to the end of the game.
Here’s our first look at a few interesting props that the oddsmakers at Bovada Sportsbook have posted that rely on what happens on the field during the game.
Hurts slight favorite over Mahomes for MVP
One of the most popular props bets during the Super Bowl each year is the Super Bowl MVP. As usual, the favorites are the quarterbacks with Philadelphia’s Jalen Hurts at +115 and Kansas City’s Patrick Mahomes, who was the MVP of Super Bowl 54, at +135. Six of the last 10 Super MVPs have been a quarterback and a QB has won the award 31 times in the history of the big game.
Last year, the MVP went to Los Angeles Rams wide receiver Cooper Kupp. If a wide receiver were to win again, the favorites are Philadelphia’s AJ Brown (+1200) and DeVonta Smith (+2200). The best value pick in the MVP odds may be Kansas City tight end Travis Kelce at +900. No tight end has ever won Super Bowl MVP, but Kelce led the Chiefs in TD receptions this year and could be the first.
Winning or losing several of your Super Bowl props bets on Super Bowl Sunday will likely hinge on you predicting which team will do what first. For example, you can bet on which team will call the first timeout, draw the first penalty, make the first coach’s challenge, make the first field goal, attempt the first punt or call the first fair catch. No matter if you choose Philadelphia or Kansas City on any of those props, you’ll be getting -115 odds.
Blocked field goal will pay out at +325 odds
Kickers can be the hero or the goat of the Super Bowl and there are plenty of standout props that focus on them. Will the longest field goal in the Super Bowl be OVER or UNDER 47.5 yards? Both the OVER and UNDER are -115. Will the first missed field goal be wide right, wide left or short? Wide right and left are both at +115, while short, which also includes hitting the crossbar and a blocked kick, is at +325.
Dallas kicker Brett Maher’s repeated misses at the extra point earlier in the playoffs make the “Will a kicker miss an extra point?” an interesting prop bet this year. No is favored at -380, while Yes pays out at +265. For those wondering, Chiefs kicker Harrison Butker missed three extra-point attempts this season, while Eagles kicker Jake Elliott missed two.
One other prop that is a risky bet but has a solid reward is “Will a kick be returned for a touchdown?” Yes is a +600 underdog. Neither side returned a kickoff or a punt for a TD this season. The last kickoff returned for a touchdown in the Super Bowl was by Seattle’s Percy Harvin in 2014, while no one has ever returned a punt for a TD in Super Bowl history.
