Las Vegas - Gimme a few brews, a few brats and a few bucks on Milwaukee. The Brewers will send Julio Teheran to the hill and despite a 1-2 record, his numbers are solid. He has started three times, thrown a total of 17 innings and allowed only 3 runs. That's a 1.59 ERA and that stat POPS off the page. Oakland will rely on Paul Blackburn to silence the Milwaukke bats, and that could be a problem since he was BOMBED the last time out, allowing 7 hits and 5 earned runs in only 5 innings. Ouch!

As we do for all the Triple Crown races, say hello to my #1 horse master, Martin Calia...You have the floor sir...

The haze has subsided and we have a beautiful sunny day for the mile and a half test of champions, the Belmont Stakes. We will not have a Triple Crown winner this year as Mage, the Kentucky Derby winner, lost to National Treasure in the Preakness Stakes. National Treasure, a Bob Baffert trainee, will attempt to capture two thirds of the Triple Crown. Let us talk about Treasure first. He went gate to wire to win the Preakness and held off Blazing Sevens in a stretch dual. I think he will use the same strategy today but will the extra distance be too much for him? Although he is working sharp I feel he may come up a bit short today. So, my Derby pick, Forte, was a late scratch, and I do believe if he ran that day would have beat Mage. But that's not the point. The point is Forte is running today. He is the two year old champ, he is undefeated this year, and has a fantastic trainer/jockey combo in Todd Pletcher and Irad Ortiz Jr. Forte last raced months ago in the Florida Derby and some handicappers feel the gap between races will hurt his chances. I'm not one of them. I remember when I was in Saratoga a few years ago, someone made the statement that Todd Pletcher was the best at getting his horses ready for distance races. That always stuck in the back of my mind. Forte would not be running if the trainer/owner/ jockey didn't think he could beat this group today. The Belmont bet will be #6 Forte, a full Benjamin across the board. In exactas and trifectas, I like the 6 over the 1-2-4-7-8. And for the late 50 cents pick 5, races 8-9-10-11-12, I put together a small ticket for $48.
