Rocket Mortgage Classic Betting Preview

Most of the top-ranked golfers in the world are taking a break this week as the PGA Tour heads to the Detroit Golf Club in Michigan for the Rocket Mortgage Classic.

In the Rocket Mortgage Classic field you’ll only find one golfer from the Top 10 of the current World Golf Rankings. That would be No. 9 Max Homa, who isn’t event listed as the favorite on the Rocket Mortgage Classic odds this week at the Bovada Sportsbook.

The oddsmakers instead have listed Tony Finau, Rickie Fowler, and Justin Thomas as co-favorites at +1400.

Finau also happens to be the defending champion of this event. He won last year’s Rocket Mortgage Classic after shooting 26-under-par to best Patrick Cantlay, Taylor Pendrith, and Cameron Young by five strokes. Last week in the Travelers Championship Finau finished well back in a tie for 45th place and he hasn’t cracked the Top 10 since posting his lone win of the season in the Mexico Open back in late April.

Fowler looks to get back atop the leaderboard

Fowler has put together a few amazing rounds lately, including shooting a 60 last week at the Travelers Championship, but it hasn’t led him back to the top of the leaderboard. Last week in the Travelers Championship Fowler finished tied for 13th which snapped a three-event Top 10 streak that included tying for fifth place at the U.S. Open. Fowler’s last win on the PGA Tour came back in 2019.

Thomas rebounded from back-to-back missed cuts at the Travelers last week by tying for ninth place to record his first top-10 finish since March. Thomas must be disappointed with his play in 2023 so far which has seen him only record three top-10 finishes while dropping down to 17th in the World Golf Rankings.

The odds on a few other notables this week include Collin Morikawa at +1600, Hideki Matsuyama at +1800, and Homa at +2000.

There isn’t a lot of history for bettors to go on this week as the Rocket Mortgage Classic only debuted on Tour a few years ago in 2019. Along with Finau the only other winners of this event include Cameron Davis (+3500) in 2021, Bryson DeChambeau (LIV Golf) in 2020, and Nate Lashley (+10000) at the inaugural tournament in 2019.
