2023/24 Stanley Cup Futures Odds
It may be the middle of summer, but with signing season underway and several players switching jerseys it’s a good time to review the Stanley Cup futures odds.
At the Bovada Sportsbook the current co-favorites on the Stanley Cup futures for 2023/24 are the Carolina Hurricanes and the Toronto Maple Leafs with both at +900.
The Hurricanes finished with 113 points last season, second best the Eastern Conference, before falling to the Florida Panthers in the Eastern Conference final. Carolina’s biggest offseason moves were signing forward Michael Bunting and defensemen Dmitry Orlov and Tony DeAngelo. They also surprisingly re-signed both their goalies, Frederik Andersen and Antti Raanta. Another key addition to the Hurricanes lineup will be sniper Andrei Svechnikov, who missed the playoffs last year after a knee injury cut his season short in March.
The Maple Leafs' playoff difficulties continued last season as they were also bounced by the Panthers, in the second round. The biggest change for Toronto may be off the ice after general manager Kyle Dubas was not given a new contract and was replaced by former Calgary Flames GM Brad Treliving. Early moves by Treliving included signing forwards Max Domi, Tyler Bertuzzi, and Ryan Reaves, and defenseman John Klingberg. The chances of Toronto finally winning the Stanley Cup for the first time since 1967 will still fall on the shoulders of Auston Matthews and Mitch Marner.
Avs, Devils, Oilers round out top five of Cup odds
Following the Hurricanes and Maple Leafs on the Cup futures are the Colorado Avalanche, New Jersey Devils, and Edmonton Oilers, with all three teams set at +1000.
Colorado played through an injury-plagued season a year ago which finished early following a first-round upset versus the Seattle Kraken. The Avalanche already know that team captain Gabriel Landeskog is out for the entire season. They’ll hope new additions Ryan Johansen and Jonathan Drouin can help fill that void.
The Devils acquired forward Tyler Toffoli via trade and locked up Timo Meier, who they acquired at the trade deadline. Behind their young core led by Jack Hughes the Devils appear to be on the rise, but goaltending remains a question mark behind Vitek Vanacek.
The Oilers fell short in the playoffs again last season despite out-of-this-world regular season production from Connor McDavid and Leon Draisaitl. Edmonton lacks the cap space to make any major offseason moves with Connor Brown being their biggest addition. Like with New Jersey, goaltending remains a question mark behind Stuart Skinner and Jack Campbell.
Golden Knights trail leaders on the betting futures
If you’re looking for the defending Stanley Cup champion Vegas Golden Knights they’re next in line at +1100 on the Stanley Cup odds. Vegas will try to run it back with most of their winning lineup intact minus the traded Reilly Smith. At +1100 a Vegas team that still boasts Jack Eichel, Jonathan Marchessault, Mark Stone, and Alex Pietrangelo could be a good value wager.
The odds for a few other notable teams include the Dallas Stars and the New York Rangers at +1400, the Panthers at +1600, and the Tampa Bay Lightning at +2000.
