BMW Championship Betting Preview

The FedEx Cup playoffs continue this week with only 50 golfers still in the running for the title at the BMW Championship at Olympia Fields Country Club in Illinois.

Last week in the first event of the FedEx Cup playoffs, the FedEx St. Jude Championship, Lucas Glover continued his strong play with his second straight Tour win following a victory in the Wyndham Championship a week earlier. In the St. Jude Glover shot 15-under-par and defeated Patrick Cantlay in a playoff.

Last week’s win rocketed Glover up to fourth place in the FedEx Cup standings. It was his fourth Top-5 finish in his last six tournaments. In the St. Jude Glover was a +6000 underdog and he’s kept that underdog status this week in the BMW Championship at +2500 odds at the Bovada Sportsbook.

The favorite this week is Rory McIlroy at +700. McIlroy tied for third place last week for his eighth straight Top-10 finish and third Top 5 in his last five events. McIlroy, the defending FedEx Cup champion, won the BMW Championship in 2012 when it was held at Crooked Stick.

Scheffler, Rahm, Cantlay follow favorites on odds list

Following McIlroy on the odds list are Scottie Scheffler at +800, Jon Rahm at +1000, and Cantlay at +1200.

Scheffler has been a disappointment for bettors in his last two events which include tying for 23rd place in the British Open and tying for 31st place last week in the St. Jude. Before the Open he had posted seven straight Top-5 finishes.

Rahm also failed to be in top form last week and tied for 37th place in the St. Jude. Rahm won the BMW Championship the last time it was played at Olympia Fields in 2020, shooting four-under-par and besting Dustin Johnson in a playoff.

Cantlay is gunning for a third straight win in the BMW Championship. He won last year at Wilmington and won in 2021 at Caves Valley. Cantlay’s second-place finish last week after losing to Glover in a playoff was his seventh Top-5 finish of the season.

The odds on a few other notables this week include Viktor Hovland at +1600, Xander Schauffele at +2000, Collin Morikawa and Max Homa both at +2500, and 2015 BMW Championship winner Jason Day at +4000.

The last time the BMW Championship was played at Olympia Fields in 2020 the finishes for some of the favorites include McIlroy and Cantlay tying for 12th place, and Scheffler and Morikawa tying for 20th place.
