orioles 0-18
Las Vegas - Saw this last night in the Baltimore Sun...
'The Atlanta Braves became the fifth straight team to sweep Baltimore with a 3-1 victory that marked the Orioles’ 18th straight defeat, three shy of the franchise record (21) set with a winless start to the 1988 season.'
Oh MAN, did that bring back some memories. Was working for the New York Daily News back in '88 and thought that I was one SHARP baseball bettor. Why not. The Daily News published my Pitching Form every day, where I charted every pitcher, every start, every hit, every earned run, every walk, every K and even how many days rest between starts (Not with the NYDN anymore, but still do the pitcher charts every day.) So, when the Orioles streak reached 15, I thought, how many more could they lose? One, two, three, five? After the 15th straight loss, I advised my readers to keep betting the O's and if they lost, just double the wager the following game. Most of my readers are in the $25/$50/maybe $100 range. So, the $50 bettor loses game 16, and throws down a full Benjamin in game 17. Loser. After that loss, the bet has to double to $200 for game 18. Again, loser, so we double to $400 for game 19. Loser, and I'm getting really nervous. Gotta double to $800 for game 20. Another loser. Can't possibly asks all my people to double to $1,600 for game 21. That was like four or five months rent back in the day. Of course it was another LOSER! Folded my tent and have NEVER EVER done that again. What a KNUCKLEHEAD! Learned my lesson, but got SO MUCH publicity and SO MANY calls about 'MY LOSING STREAK,' that I had to hire an intern just to answer all the chatter. Fun times!
So, the Orioles play the Angels tomorrow in Baltimore. It'll be Spenser Watkins for the O's against Dylan Bundy for L.A. Anyone interested? HA, ONLY KIDDING!
