PGA Betting: WGC-St. Jude Invitational Odds
The final WGC event of the year is on the schedule this week, as golf’s best head to TPC Southwind in Memphis, Tennessee, for the WGC-FedEx St. Jude Invitational.
We said golf’s best but the No. 1-ranked golfer in the world, Jon Rahm, won’t be there after withdrawing a few weeks ago. With Rahm out, the event favorite at Bovada Sportsbook is Brooks Koepka at +1200.
Favorite Koepka won first Invitational at Southwind in 2019
Koepka has cracked the top six in four of his last five tournaments, including tying for sixth place in the British Open last month. At WGC events this year, he tied for second at the WGC-Workday and missed the Match Play event. He won the Invitational in 2019, the first year it was held at Southwind.
Following Koepka on the odds list at Bovada are Collin Morikawa and Xander Schauffele at +1400 and Jordan Spieth and Justin Thomas at +1600.
Morikawa and Schauffele both competed at the Olympics last week with Schauffele bringing home the gold for America and Morikawa missing out on a medal after falling in a playoff for the bronze.
Schauffele tied for sixth at the Invitational last year and has one WGC win on his resume, the WGC-Champions event in 2018. Morikawa, the British Open winner, also won the WGC-Workday earlier this year.
Defending champion has no top-10 finishes since March
Despite all of his success, Spieth has never won a WGC event. He really hasn’t come close since 2016 when he tied for third place in the Invitational. Spieth finished second at the British Open last month and has posted five top-10 finishes in his last eight tournaments.
Thomas is the defending champion of the Invitational and also won the event in 2018 when it was held at Firestone. He finished tied for 22nd at the Olympics and hasn’t posted a top-10 finish in any tournament since March.
This year’s other WGC event, the Match Play, was won by Billy Horschel and he also tied for second in the WGC-Workday. He’s a +8000 underdog at Bovada to add another WGC win this week.
There are a few other former winners of this event in the field this week, but all of them won at Firestone before the venue changed. They include 2017 winner Hideki Matsuyama (+2500), 2016 winner Dustin Johnson (+1800), 2015 winner Shane Lowry (+4000), 2014 winner Rory McIlroy (+1800) and 2011 winner Adam Scott (+6600).
