Las Vegas - Going bowling this evening, specifically the First Responder Bowl in Dallas between Texas State and Rice. Both schools live in Texas. The Bobcats hang out in San Marcos and the Owls hang their helmets in Houston. Both schools are around three hours from the Big D so no edge for either. This is the first bowl game EVER for State since upgrading to the FBS 12 years ago. So, they're gonna be JACKED. The Bobcats closed the season with an impressive 52-44 win over a South Alabama team that just CRUSHED Eastern Michigan, 59-10, in the 68 Ventures Bowl. No idea what 68 Ventures is, and don't really care. Just sayin'. Texas State is led by former Auburn QB T.J. Finley, who guided the Bobcats to an average of 36 points per game, throwing for 3,287 yards with 24 TDs and eight INTs. State also can gobble up chunks on the ground, with RB Ismail Mahdi rumbling for 1,209 yards and 10 scores. If you looked at the Owls coming in off two straight wins, DON'T be impressed. They beat Charlotte (3-9) and FAU (4-8) and HAVE NOT posted a W this season against a team with a winning record. OUCH! Gotta roll with the Bobcats from San Marcos.
