Las Vegas - Same old same old in the POWERHOUSE SEC. Alabama and LSU will fight for the top spot in the West, while Georgia and Florida will be the beasts of the East. However, there are some serious question marks for all the top dogs.
Lets start with a look at the West. Tua is gonzo but this freshman kid Bryce Young should win the starting QB job over Mac Jones. The kid, Young, out of high school powerhouse Mater Dei in California, is basically Tua lite. Both Tua and Bryce are 6'0" with a generous tape measure, but Double T tips the scale at 215 pounds, while Young is just pushing 190. But the kid from Cali seems to have better legs than Tua. He rushed for 357 yards in his senior season while Tagovailoa had just 190 for 'Bama in his only complete season back in 2018. But it's Young's passing stats that POP right off the page. Sure it's just high school, but how about 294 completions in 409 attempts for a SIZZLING 71%. How about an average of 348.3 yards per game. And if you're sitting, how about 58 TDs in just 13 games against ONLY 6 INTs. Again, it's just high school, but Mater Dei plays the best of the best in the country, and did we mention FIFTY EIGHT TDs in 13 games. That's an average of 4.5 per game. Then you have Najee Harris at RB working behind another crushing O-line, four of the five starters return, and a D that's bound to be better than last year, with two top shelf LBs, Dylan Moses and Joshua McMillon, back to cause havoc.
WAY more questions for the defending champs LSU. They lose a ONCE-IN-A-LIFETIME QB in Joe Burrow. They lose the absolute BEST offensive coordinator in Joe Brady. They also lose 14 players to the draft, including FIVE 1st round selections (Burrow, K'Lavon Chaisson, Justin Jefferson, Patrick Queen and Clyde Edwards-Helaire). The cupboard ain't bare, it never is, but MAN, that's a whole bunch of talent that just left Baton Rouge. If Eddie O can guide his Tigers to the top of the West this season, then he TRULY is the GREATEST coach working. He is already the GREATEST voice!
